Hello everyone! I’m hoping someone can help me solve this.
I have a PurpleAir Flex Sensor and my WiFi Connected status always stays orange and never changes to green. Sometimes I’ll see it grey colored. In the bottom-left status indicators, LOC is always gray, and the first 3RD indicator stays red.
What’s confusing me is that my sensor is showing up on both the PurpleAir map and Weather Underground’s WunderMap, and I can confirm that both are receiving updates from my sensor.
For the life of me, I can’t figure out why these status indicators won’t turn green. I’ve triple-checked my pfSense firewall rules, and nothing appears to be blocking the sensor’s traffic. I did a packet capture and I can see traffic coming and going from the sensor.
I’ve attached a screenshot of what I’m seeing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
And yes, I’m definitely in an area being affected by the wildfire smoke smh
P.S. Does anyone know if the PurpleAir Flex supports IPv6?
Given that your sensor is showing up on our map and the WunderMap, there’s no issue with your sensor’s connection. The “Checking status” banner is something that is known to not always work, and it’s near the top of our list to resolve in a future firmware update to ensure it works properly. It likely has to do with the fact that the “3RD” (third-party data processor) indicator isn’t working consistently now due to things changing, and the firmware hasn’t updated alongside them. Regardless of this, we can see that your sensor is connected. No need to worry about troubleshooting this status message.
Thank you for detailed troubleshooting and thought put into this. I’ve also updated our WiFi and Registration article to clarify that this case is a non-issue.
Our sensors don’t currently support IPv6. There is future hardware that we’re working on, but no guarantees at the moment.

Hi @ShawnBoyle Thank you for your reply! I appreciate it. So, I’m not going crazy then lol One more quick question if you do not mind, why does LOC stay grey? I have never seen it green. I’ve read the description for it and it seems like it should’ve turned green by now too Am I missing something in my setup or firmware related?
The smoke finally cleared earlier this week! It felt so good to finally turn off the AC, open the windows and get some fresh air flowing.
Glad to hear about the smoke clearing up! That LOC indicator is related to what is typically a one-time “position check”, which is done initially to verify the position of the sensor on the map in relation to its physical location. It’s not a recurring service, and the indicator isn’t particularly crucial.
That being said, this check doesn’t get performed at all on 7.04 firmware versions, which is what your sensor is on according to your screenshot. We’re planning to update our documentation in the future to make this more clear.
