Posting here to share the Android app I developed for air quality notifications.
AQ Alert is intended to send you a push notification for various events reported by a Purple Air device, but you can also just use the app as a bunch of “bookmarks” to quickly open the Purple Air map.
Types of event you can get a push notification for:
- Air quality crosses some threshold(s) you can choose to be notified when the air quality is getting worse, or improving, or both. You can define your own thresholds, or use the defaults.
- The sensor develops an accuracy issue (bug crawled into the laser counter?).
- The device goes offline.
To get push notifications, there is a per sensor subscription (with discounts for multiple sensors). The base price is ~$1/month (USD) with a 1-week free trial to get notifications for a single sensor. You can have as many “bookmarks” as you like without any fee.
I don’t want to be constantly checking my phone/computer to know the current air quality, so push notifications are key for me. Additionally, it becomes increasingly cumbersome if you are checking sensors in different locations, or in locations with large numbers of sensors). I made a (very rough) version the app for myself and family who own sensors shortly after Airwyn disappeared, since (at the time) nothing available for Android really met my needs. I spent some time recently making it more user friendly, and hope some other people might find it useful too.
If you live in a country or speak a language the app isn’t currently available in, let me know, and I’ll try and get things set up there ASAP.
I’m happy to receive bug reports, feedback and feature requests - I already have some ideas, but would love some different perspectives.
