Connecting to a wpa3 network

Clean Air Pueblo is a citizen science group install purpleair monitors across our town. We wanted to install a flex monitor at alll the fire stations. Their WiFi network is wpa3 based. Are there any work arounds to get the purpleair wpa2 monitors to connect to this wpa3 network?

They would need to set their network to be mixed-mode WPA2/WPA3, or you need to use a bridge that talks WPA3 and allows the PurpleAir sensors to connect at WPA2. Alternately PurpleAir would have to update the firmware to support WPA3.

It’s common for government agencies have IT security requirements to use the best encryption available, thus mandating WPA3.

If their equipment supports it, the fire department could create a separate Wifi network for the PA sensors (and other IoT devices) that allows WPA2 and only has Internet access but no access to any internal resources. Extra access controls can be placed on that network to ensure only authorized devices associate.
