Residential Air Quality Monitoring Downwind of Project Maize Brownfield Excavation

I am a resident of Michigan City, Indiana, living at 106 Stimpson Ct, directly downwind of the ‘Project Maize’ data center development. This 67-acre site is a former industrial brownfield where IDEM has documented significant levels of Arsenic, Lead, and Trichloroethylene (TCE).

As excavation for this 800,000 sq. ft. facility continues, we are concerned about localized spikes in contaminated fugitive dust and diesel particulates that are not being captured by distant city sensors. I am seeking a PurpleAir Zen sensor to establish an independent residential baseline. The Zen’s LED ring is a critical feature for our household, as it will provide a real-time visual safety indicator for my children and grandchildren, letting us know exactly when to close our windows during high-wind or heavy-excavation events.

Hi DLeek,

I can see that we had some communication with you internally that tells me this project has moved forward. Happy to discuss your concerns and what our sensors are capable of measuring in more detail, either here or if you’d like to email in again to contact@purpleair.com. Glad to have you in the community!
