BUG REPORT.
We have >20 PA Flex, all new in the last month or so. They all fail to record SD card data unless they are powered up when they are at room T. If they are cold (below ~ 45F) when launched, SD card data are not written, but all other operation is normal. The err msg on the map sensor info is:
“SD logger is not detected and data may not be written to the SD card.” This test is the same with or w/out a SD card installed.
Once outside in a New England winter, if they lose power even momentarily, they no longer write SD card data. This is a major problem for our research.
Is there a fix? Thanks - George
Could you send an email to contact@purplair.com detailing everything you’ve found? This is an issue that we have been made aware of and are now looking into.
Hi Kieran – any news on this issue? It’d be nice to get it fixed before this winter. Hopefully it’s a firmware fix? But if not, then we have a hot mess. Oops, a cold mess. Some of our research work requires SD card data, and any power interruption in the winter stops the SD card data recording; we don’t find out until we go to DL the data and end up losing a lot of data. This is a major issue for us. Thanks – George
I noticed the same issue with my PurpleAir Flex 2 sensors. My research is also in New England where they failed to log data on a lot of days on December and January. @Kieran I would love to know more on this.
@Kieran I too would like to know what the plan is to fix this, or if it is not fixable in units already shipped. It’s been 9-10 months since I first alerted PA to this problem. Thx.
I have noticed the same issue with three PA Flex IIs I deployed this winter in southern Oregon. I have full days worth of data July-September 2025, but only getting half-days (or less) as of October. The PA would stop writing around 7p and resume 10a the next day. They were continuously operating, so the issue doesn’t seem restricted to just starting up a device. I’ll email as well with data.
This is different that what I noted; they won’t start logging unless the T is > 50F or so. Once started they run fine in cold wx until a power cycle - then they don’t come back.
