What Do PurpleAir Sensors Measure and How Do They Work?

I’m having a difficult time understanding why uncalibrated BME6xx sensors are being used to measure air quality. @Andrew You mentioned that the IC is being used to measure Static IAQ, but the Static IAQ is an unscaled indoor-air-quality estimate. Measuring the static IAQ might make sense because the device is stationary, but this still doesn’t explain the rationale of using that IC outside of its scope (outdoors, rather than indoors).

BME6xx sensors usually have a sensor deviation of around 15%. This seems significant for air quality applications where gathering data is being pushed as one of the device’s modus operandi. The environment where the readings are taking place can also influence the readings pretty heavily, and couple that with the sensor to sensor deviations in readings and… well, I’m sure you know where I’m going with that.

I hope that I’m wrong about my assumptions here. Fighting air pollution is a noble goal that I can get behind, though perhaps after my doubts about the accuracy of the device have been cleared. :hugs:
