Hello and thanks for checking out my bio. I’m new here and have been learning how to measure and understand Air Quality Index data through using my Zen sensor, and looking at the data from the map of my county and state, and even around the country.

I started my quest because I live next to short-sighted, cheap skate, compassionless neighbors burning their self cut unseasoned firewood less than 50 feet from my house. It puts out a thick white and grey haze that most often does not even rise, rather flows over the top of the chimney and runs down to the ground like suds from a washtub. It destroys the air quality in my yard and seeps into my home causing respiratory and other health problems. This has been going on two years now, and the Zen is hopefully going to help me end this terror.

For the first time ever I am able to quantify the damage they are inflicting by matching Purple Air AQI data with my photography of the smoke coming out of their chimney, proving that the spikes in bad air match the time stamps of the pictures and video I’ve taken. I have a wind speed and direction station that records its data, and this along with the pictures and AQI data make a strong case that they are causing the pollution.

I am looking to get an ordinance in our hamlet forbidding this wood burning and other people I know who have their own firebug neighbors are supporting me. Very happy I came across Purple Air products and this vibrant community, and I thank you for having me here.
