Troubleshooting Sensor Not Receiving Power

This article will walk you through the troubleshooting steps to see if your sensor is receiving power and if your sensor no longer shows on the map. Your sensor could have stopped receiving power if the marker on the map turns grey or the LEDs have turned off.

If the red LED is blinking, this indicates a power problem and should be treated the same as if the red LED was not turning on at all

LEDs are off, and the sensor is reporting to the map

If your sensor is reporting to the map, it is receiving power. You can manually adjust the LED settings for the PurpleAir Touch and PurpleAir Zen by going to the registration page. You can also double-tap the PurpleAir Touch and the PurpleAir Zen to adjust the brightness. If the AQI glow in the PurpleAir Zen or PurpleAir Touch does not come on after trying to change the settings, or the red glow in the PurpleAir Classic and PurpleAir Flex doesn’t turn on, and the sensor is still reporting to the map, the component may need to be replaced. In this case, please contact us.

LEDs are on, but the sensor isn’t reporting to the map

When the LEDs in your sensor are on, the sensor is receiving power. Check your map settings if you can’t see your sensor on the map. To do so, click on the gear icon in the top left-hand corner of the map and ensure that the “show inside,” “show outside,” and “show my sensors” checkboxes are all selected.

If your sensor is private, you’ll need to log in to the map or use a custom link to see your sensor.

If the sensor’s map marker is colored to reflect the AQI, your sensor is receiving power and reporting data.

If the sensor’s map maker is grey, it is likely not connected to Wi-Fi. To reconnect to Wi-Fi, please review our Sensor Start-Up Guide.

If the map marker has disappeared, check the "Reporting or modified within" setting on the map.

LEDs are off, and the sensor isn’t reporting to the map

This means that your sensor is likely not receiving power, your LED settings need to be adjusted, or your LEDs are no longer working. As you try the steps below, be sure to check if the PurpleAir-**** network appears in your list of available networks (it may take up to 10 minutes for the PurpleAir-**** network to appear after the device is connected to power); you may need to reconfigure it to Wi-Fi since it’s been offline. If you no longer see the PurpleAir-**** network, check the map to see if your sensor is online.

If the sensor still does not seem to be receiving power, please contact us with your order number so we can see what options are available.
