While in service at the installation location, your PurpleAir sensor may require maintenance. At some time, you may determine a better service location for your PurpleAir sensor. If you expect your PurpleAir sensor to not be employed in service for some period of time, you may want to store it until needed again. Consider these topics within this guide. Your preferred, local or personal, WiFi network will be referred to as _local WiFi_ for the remainder of this guide.

## Sensor Relocation

Once your sensor has been in service at the installation location, you may determine a better service location for your PurpleAir sensor.

Before moving the sensor to a new location or location type (inside/outside), the data gathered to date will need to be [archived](https://community.purpleair.com/t/what-does-it-mean-to-archive-a-purpleair-sensor/1332) to the physical location, and the sensor will be reset to gather fresh data in the new location. Please proceed as follows:

1. Disconnect the PurpleAir sensor from the power supply.

2. Send a pre-formatted [email](mailto:contact@purpleair.com?subject=Archive%20Sensor&body=PurpleAir,%0D%0DPlease%20archive%20my%20sensor%20(MAC%20Address:%20 **:** : **:** : **:** )%20for%20relocation.%0D%0DThank%20you) to let us know to archive the data:
**Subject** : “Archive Sensor”
**Body** : State the Device ID ( ` **:** : **:** : **:** ` ), and let us know when you are moving it or that you have already disconnected the power supply.

3. Once you receive confirmation back from PurpleAir, [reconnect](https://community.purpleair.com/t/sensor-start-up-guide/182#connect-your-sensor-to-wifi-3) the sensor to the power supply and your local WiFi. Finally, [reregister](https://community.purpleair.com/t/sensor-start-up-guide/182#register-your-sensor-for-use-on-the-map-7) the sensor in the new location.

## Sensor Storage and Care

If you expect your PurpleAir sensor will not be employed in service for some period of time, we recommend proper storage practices until it’s needed again. To extend the service-life of the sensor, store it in a dry place inside a sealed container. This discourages the accumulation of dust, insects, and moisture; any of which could potentially affect the performance of the laser counters.
